In the video below, Benjamin Zander explains how his students all score an A. I watch this video once in a while because it helps me to see people and the world in a different way. Below a ‘note to self’ with the 5 most important insights:
- It’s all invented. We all view the world through a frame of invented stories. If we realise this more often, we will be able to create new stories.
- Making mistakes is good! We think it’s bad to make mistakes, while we can only become better at something by failing. How fascinating!
- Think in visions instead of goals. Goals create expectations, you meet them or you don’t. A vision gives more of a direction in the direction of where you want to go (with passion).
- See potential instead of unfulfilled expectations. Speak and live in connection with people and give them the space to give and receive without judgement.
- Rule #6 Finally, rule number 6 is simple and something you should not forget: “Don’t take yourself so god-damn seriously.”
